Frequently Asked Questions :

What are the Foundation's objectives?

The ELLE Foundation is based on the magazine's founding principle: "To support the advancement, the emancipation and the role of women in our society". As a result, its mission is to financially support projects which promote women's emancipation through education, vocational training and information.

What are the criteria for the selection of projects?

- A project submitted by an NGO :
The project must be submitted by an NGO governed by the French law. However, if the charity does not fulfil that condition, it can find a French "umbrella-agency" which will receive the funds and be responsible for the allocation of those funds. The charity from which the project originated will then be considered as the local partner of the "umbrella-agency". No fund will be allocated to private individuals since the Foundation does not deliver grants to individuals.
- An educational project :
The Foundation's purpose is to use education as a tool for girls' and women's emancipation. The term education is taken in a broad context (schooling, the elimination of illiteracy, high school education and vocational training).

- A project which benefits women, adolescent girls and young girls.

How does the ELLE Foundation work?

As a corporate foundation, the ELLE Foundation was set up for at least 5 years. It has a start-up capital of 1,250,000 €. The Foundation will support projects submitted by non-governmental organisations. The projects must be previously approved by the Board of Administrators that convenes to select projects twice a year. A funding based on a partnership : The Foundation's administrators' purpose is to work in partnership. Therefore, the Foundation will call upon companies and organisations in order to extend its scope of action, in particular the global brand names which work in partnership with the Hachette Filipacchi Médias Group on a regular basis. As a result, the ELLE Foundation will seek co-funding partners to increase its initial investment. Funds will be directly allocated to the beneficiary NGO and will not be funnelled through the Foundation.

What are the geographical criteria of the Foundation?

The ELLE Foundation will support projects run in France and abroad. There is no strict regulation regarding the budget allocation. It will only depend on the relevance of the projects.

What is the deadline to submit a project?

The Board of Administrators convenes twice a year. Only projects already examined will be presented. As a result, an application can be submitted at the next meeting. The Foundation's staff examines the project. If the proposal doesn't match with the Foundation's objectives, the NGO will be immediately informed. Applications which fulfil the conditions for acceptance will be examined with more attention. In such a case, further information may be required.

Could the Foundation support a project for several years?

No regulation says that a project can not be supported for several years. However, the allocation of each expense should be strictly defined in the original project proposal. If the charity wants to reallocate funds, an amendment must be added to the agreement signed between the NGO and the Foundation.

Could the funding be retroactive?

No, there is no retroactive expenditure. The eligibility date of expenditure should be mentioned in the project. The launch of the project will depend on the signing of the agreement.
