VOCATION
Significantly, 60% of the 100 million children who do not attend school in developing countries are girls.
Educating girls is therefore a top priority. While all legal texts proclaim that children worldwide have a right to be educated, the fact remains that educational standards among girls are far inferior to those among boys. The figures obtained from programs intended to enroll girls in schools and educate them show that:
Educating a girl will educate her family, for the benefit of an entire community;
The rise in the number of enrollments of girls in primary schools increases GDP per capita;
Schooling, health education and prevention campaigns that target girls reduce the sexual exploitation of children and child labour;
Each year that a girl is educated, the mortality rate among children under five-years old reduces by 5 to 10 %;
The more women are educated, the more their sons and daughters will also be educated.
The ELLE Foundation will therefore support programs that emphasize a global approach to primary, secondary and tertiary education as well as teacher training.
The Foundation will support all programs aimed at increasing the independence of mothers through informal education, job training and social integration for the socially underprivileged. It will support all initiatives that enable them to take their daughters to school.
It will promote the creation of information networks and vehicles (newspapers, community radio stations) for women.
It will primarily focus its action in countries where educating girls is key to long-term economic growth. It will also promote projects in France.
